Position: Interpretive Assistant (part-time)
Hourly Rate: $15.00 – $22.00

Job Description: Under general supervision, will be part of a team that provides interpretive assistance and public programming. This will include support of the naturalist staff in performing a wide range of duties related to nature-based programming for the general public, schools, and community groups. Additionally, will assist with day-to-day staffing and upkeep of the Chilo Lock 34 Visitor Center and River History Museum. The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. This position will report to the Head Naturalist.

Key Responsibilities:
Prepares for and implements interpretive programs on a variety of nature and history topics; works with audiences of all ages; gathers supplies and transports to program locations; greets and assists scheduled groups; returns and restocks supplies after programs; assists in planning seasonal programs; schedules pop-up programs.

Develops and creates program activities and materials for school classes, youth groups, educators, senior citizens, yurt groups, special events, volunteer events, and park visitors; researches and prepares supportive materials and displays; creates binomial keys and simple identification guides.

Assists in staffing and upkeep the Chilo Lock 34 Park Visitor Center and River History Museum; greets visitors; gives brief presentations; answers questions, answers phone, direct visitors, and responds to visitor’s needs and concerns; researches local history; assists with exhibit changes and repair.

Maintains programming spaces, office areas, and Chilo Lock 34 Park Visitor Center (including, but not limited to cleaning restrooms, rental shelters, sweeping and mopping floors, and emptying trash); maintains supplies and equipment used in programming.

Cares for animals kept in captivity (snakes, turtles, etc.); feeds animals and cleans animal habitats; looks for signs of injuries or illness in animals; reports problems; keeps records; refills and cleans birdfeeders.

Assists with clerical duties; responds to inquiries about programs and natural history in the parks; updates program information on various websites; keeps program attendance records.

Assists in park natural area upkeep and restoration such as removing invasive species, trail maintenance, plantings, picking up trash, cleaning kiosks, volunteer events, etc.; surveys, monitors, and records biological events within preserve and park areas; advises Head Naturalist or other appropriate staff and personnel on suggested improvements.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; may be required to work extra hours, evening hours, weekends and/or holidays as necessary. This position description in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the position incumbent.

Minimum Required Experience and Training:

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in natural sciences such as biology, geology environmental studies, history, or a related field, and one (1) year of work experience in the parks and recreation field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license. Must remain insurable under the Park District’s vehicle insurance policy. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR by a recognized health care educational provider or obtain certification within six (6) months of employment in this position.

Position: Natural Resource Technician (part-time)
Hourly Rate: $15.00 – $15.00

Job Description: Under general supervision, the Natural Resources Technician, performs various unskilled general labor, preventative maintenance and repair function tasks on park trails and in park natural areas facilities, grounds, vehicles and equipment; changes oil, lubricates moving parts; checks fluid levels; replaces belts cleans and maintains park public facilities and grounds; clears brush and trees; mows and trims grass; plants flowers, shrubs and trees; digs trenches; picks-up litter; waters and fertilizes plants; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds and sprays; leaf collection; and other landscaping tasks as required; removes invasive plants; cares for animals; assembles bird boxes; monitors and observes facilities, grounds and equipment for safety and maintenance needs, and takes appropriate action; repairs roadways, walkways, pathways and trails. This position will report to the Naturals Resources Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Assists staff with semi-skilled general labor and maintenance functions; applies chemicals under license of commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator; operates machine tools and equipment; performs minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing repairs and maintenance; and paints signs.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; may be required to work extra hours, evening hours, weekends and/or holidays as necessary; due to the nature of the job, when scheduled for on-call assignment, the Natural Resources Technician must be available to return to work after normal work hours or on weekends and/or holidays when called to do so, to handle maintenance and/or safety issues that arise.

Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED) and six (6) months work experience in natural resources or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license. Must remain insurable under the Park District’s vehicle insurance policy. Must be certified in First Aid, CPR, and BBP by a recognized health care educational provider or obtain certification within six (6) months of employment in this position.

Position: Administrative Assistant/Payroll Clerk (part-time)
Hourly Rate: $15.00 – $15.00

Job Duties:
Under general supervision, the Administrative Assistant/Payroll Clerk performs the routine day-to-day administrative and personnel related functions of the Park District; performs data entries of invoices; maintains purchase orders and vendor information; maintains payroll, sick leave and vacation records; acts as Health Care Coordinator for the Park District; disseminates benefits information and collects completed benefits forms from Park District employees; handles routine benefits questions; files claims for insurance, worker’s compensation, and other employee related benefit programs; Maintains Park District’s office supplies, materials and equipment inventory records and purchases to replenish stock when stock levels are low or for new or replaced items; maintains records of facilities, utilities, fleet expenses; Maintains Park District files, correspondence, records and documents and properly disposes of them in accordance with retention guidelines; Assists in the preparation of the written record of Board of Commissioner’s meetings and proceedings; prepares minutes and meetings’ agenda; prepares reports for the Board meeting such as leave, rental total, overages, donations and other miscellaneous items; responds to inquiries from the public regarding rental requests, special events, park facilities general information and policies; handles rental of Park District properties including lodges and shelters; assists in answering phones; resolves issues, complaints and/or concerns or refers them to appropriate staff member; prepares financial reports and maintains fiscal records; participates in annual audits; assists in preparing deposit paperwork and making daily deposits to the Treasurer’s Office from various Park District locations, programs, events and donations; Acts as Reservation Clerk/Accounts Receivable in that employee’s absence; answers phones, takes rental reservations for Park District areas and facilities; registers Park District patrons and collects fees for recreational programs; greets visitors and guests; answers questions and directs visitors; performs office cleaning duties such as: cleaning restrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash, etc.; performs special projects and research as assigned; may assist in organizing and coordinating special events; attends meetings and serves on committees, as directed; attends training and seminars, as directed; meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERPP safety standards that pertain to essential functions; demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
